The Northwest College wrestling team had a dominant time on the mat last weekend in Utah, defeating Colorado Northwestern Community College 50-0 in a neutral site contest, before defeating Utah Tech 49-6, Trinidad State College 47-4 and Snow College 39-4 at the Snow College Duals on Friday.
Starting on Thursday in Vernal, the Trappers took on the Spartans in a neutral site dual.
Northwest started strong with a pin in 35 seconds by Dylan Sorensen at 125 pounds, followed by a forfeit for Ryan Nutt at 133 pounds.
Zachary Covolo added a pin in 2:22 at 141 pounds, and Devin Grossman added a 14-6 major decision win at 149 pounds to make it 22-0.
Colby Ducatt got a pin in 2:35 at 157 pounds and Porter Olson received a forfeit at 165 pounds.
Dustin Rhoades got a 19-8 major decision win at 174 pounds, Asad Fayzullaev got a pin in 4:09 at 197 pounds and Austin Richens got a pin in 56 seconds at 285 pounds to end a homecoming night for himself and Rhoades to Utah.
"It was an incredible event in Vernal," coach Jim Zeigler said. "A huge crowd came out. It's a big wrestling town and I've had several kids from Vernal on my teams in the past and they showed up. It was really great … Credit to their coach. He was able to throw together a lineup, and they're a first year program. There's going to be challenges for him. We all have challenges, and it's even more difficult your first year and he was able to put something together. We really appreciate it, and do what we can to help them get their program up and running as well."
Continuing on to Richfield the Trappers took part in a set of duals with three other colleges.
The Trappers started with the host Badgers, as Sorensen earned a pin in 1:13 and Nutt added a pin in 1:19 to make it 12-0 early.
Covolo added a 21-6 tech fall before Snow earned its lone win with an 11-2 major decision at 149 pounds.
Ducatt pushed the lead back out with a 23-9 major decision as Olson won via a 9-5 decision at 165 pounds.
Rhoades scored a 5-2 sudden victory at 174 pounds, Fayzullaev recorded a 3-1 decision at 184 pounds, Race Moxley had a 6-3 win at 197 pounds and Richens posted another pin under a minute at 58 seconds to end the match.
"Snow had a decent team. They're well coached," Zeigler said. "It was a nice experience to go down there and wrestle with them. They're coming up here for the second time … So we really appreciate them doing that."
He added that Snow College was set up for the women's national duals, which helped create an exciting atmosphere for the duals on Friday.
Northwest continued with a matchup against Trinidad State, as Sorensen got the forfeit at 125 pounds before Trinidad got the win at 133 pounds via 21-7 major decision to make it 6-4.
Covolo earned a 16-1 tech fall at 141 pounds, followed by a 12-4 major decision by Grossman and an 18-3 tech fall by Ducatt made it 20-4.
Olson got an 11-5 win at 165 pounds, before four straight forfeits ended the match and Northwest finished with a 47-4 win.
Ending the weekend the Trappers took on Utah Tech. Sorensen started with a pin in 4:44, Nutt got a pin in 3:51 and Covolo earned a 17-1 tech fall at 141.
Northwest forfeited at 149 while Ducatt earned a forfeit win at 157 pounds.
"Devin was a little sore. He kind of struggled in the previous match, was a little sore so I decided to rest him," Zeigler said. "He's fine, he'll be back in the lineup Friday."
Olson got an 18-2 tech fall at 165 pounds, before Rhoades got a pin in 1:18 and Fayzullaev added a pin in 3:34 at 184.
Moxley got a 10-4 decision at 197 and Richens earned a pin in 2:50 to end with a 49-6 team win.
"I hope that it does (give a boost). I know that we did some good things … It's always good to have success and build on that," Zeigler said.

APODACA WEEKEND
The Trappers return home this weekend, hosting the annual Apodaca Duals on Friday and Saturday.
"It's become somewhat of a homecoming for not just award winners, but for people that would like to see some Northwest wrestling," Zeigler said.
Northwest will host the Apodaca Award presentation at 6 p.m. Friday before a dual against No. 6 North Idaho College at 6:15 p.m.
Other teams in attendance this weekend include No. 3 Western Wyoming Community College, No. 4 Southeast Community College, the No. 11 ranked Trappers, as well as Snow and Northeastern Junior College, which are unranked.
The Trappers then continue against Snow College at 9 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Southeast at 10:30 a.m. and concluding with NJC at noon.
"We want to do better than we did before (against these teams)," Zeigler said. "That's how we know we're making progress. I fully expect us to compete better than we did the first time against North Idaho, Southeastern and NJC. Just looking forward to the weekend. A nice homecoming, lots of good wrestling action."
Zeigler said in addition to the emotions of the Apodacas, the Trappers will be without one of their biggest supporters at the event as his friend Katherine Murphy passed away a couple of weeks ago.
"Katherine will be missed. She never missed wrestling," Zeigler said. "Katherine and her son, Brad, always came to wrestling matches. I knew her when I was a little boy … She was a wonderful lady. I will certainly notice her absence."
