The Northwest College wrestling team took a productive trip to the NJCAA National Championships and returned with three All-Americans, as Zachary Covolo and Asad Fayzullaev both finished third at 141 and 184 pounds, while Austin Richens claimed the individual title at 285 pounds.

TRAPPER WRESTLING HEADS TO NATIONALS IN IOWA

Following a weekend off, the Northwest College wrestling team is on the road for the NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, taking nine wrestlers to compete at the national tournament on Friday and Saturday.

NWC WRESTLING QUALIFIES NINE

Nine wrestlers have qualified for the NJCAA National Championships for the Northwest College wrestling team following a strong performance at the Plains District Championships in Rock Springs on Saturday.

Austin Richens (top) had a dominant weekend at 285 pounds, going 4-0 including three pins in under a minute as Northwest went 3-1 in the Apodaca Duals.
TRAPPERS FINISH 3-1 AT APODACAS

Top quality wrestling took place throughout the weekend at Cabre Gym, as the Northwest College wrestling team hosted the Apodaca Duals on Friday and Saturday. The Trappers defeated North Idaho College 27-18 on Friday, as well as Snow College 26-21 and Northeastern Junior College 35-18 on either side of a 40-9 loss to Southeast Community College on Saturday.

NWC WRESTLING DOMINATES ON THE ROAD

The Northwest College wrestling team had a dominant time on the mat last weekend in Utah, defeating Colorado Northwestern Community College 50-0 in a neutral site contest, before defeating Utah Tech 49-6, Trinidad State College 47-4 and Snow College 39-4 at the Snow College Duals on Friday.

Zachary Covolo (top) got a pin at 141 pounds against Western Wyoming on Friday, with the Trappers coming up just short 30-24 in the home dual.

Taking on one of the top teams in the country on Friday in front of the home crowd for the first time, the Northwest College wrestling team kept it close with visiting Western Wyoming Community College, with the visitors coming out on top 30-24.

In a weekend that featured 23 teams from around the country, the Northwest College wrestling team placed eighth. The Trappers learned plenty at the NJCAA National/Coaches Duals in Miami, Oklahoma, which featured some of the top teams in the nation.

WRESTLERS HIT HIGHS, LOWS IN NEBRASKA

Returning to action after the Thanksgiving break led to mixed results in Nebraska for the Northwest College wrestling team, as the Trappers had three duals in one day, rolling past Labette Community College 39-9 and Northeastern Junior College 38-12 before falling to host Southeast Community College 38-9.

WRESTLERS LEARN ON TOUGH IDAHO ROAD TRIP

A weekend full of lessons for the freshmen and impressive performances for the sophomore wrestlers led to mixed results for the Northwest College wrestling team at the Cardinal Duals in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. NWC defeated Big Bend Community College 49-0 before recording losses to Clackamas Community College 37-18 and host North Idaho College 38-9.

The Northwest College wrestling team started its season strong in Colorado, winning a dual over Northeastern Junior College on Saturday before seeing some good early season results at the Mines Rookie Open on Sunday in Golden, including a win by Asad Fayzullaev at 184 pounds.

Growth. That continues to be the word surrounding the Northwest College wrestling program entering the 2025-26 season, starting the year once again in the NJCAA rankings, where they finished last season seventh as a team.
