COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA – The Northwest College Trappers’ top wrestler left Iowa last weekend with a second consecutive national title, this time at 184 pounds.

Eight Northwest College wrestlers have made their way to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to take part in the NJCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday.

Caleb Nadig finished runner-up at 149 pounds, falling by decision in the championship and surviving a challenge bid to take the No. 2 seed to the national championships.

TRAPPER WRESTLING DEFEATS TRINIDAD

Back on the road after the Apodacas the Northwest College wrestling team made a quick trip to Rock Springs to take on Trinidad State, defeating the Trojans 35-24.

TRAPPERS TAKE DOWN NO. 1

A weekend filled with emotion, excitement and a lot of talented wrestlers brought fans to Cabre Gym, leading to one of the biggest moments of the season for the Northwest College wrestling team during the Apodaca Duals on Friday and Saturday.

Orrin Jackson (top) finished 3-1 at 165 pounds at the NJCAA Coaches Duals on Jan. 12 and 13. The Trappers will return home for the first time since the start of the season to host the Apodaca Duals this weekend.

APODACA DUALS COMMENCE FRIDAY

Nearly three months competing away from home will come to an end for the Northwest College wrestling team, as they host the Apodaca Duals on Friday and Saturday. That will be the first action after returning home from the NJCAA Coaches Duals on Jan. 12 and 13 in Miami, Oklahoma, where the Trappers had strong individual performances but finished 1-3 in duals.

Robby Ortega finished 1-2 at 184 pounds at the Younes Hospitality Open, with the Trapper wrestling team gaining valuable experience early in the season.

TRAPPER WRESTLING BOUNCES BACK ON ROAD TRIP

Bouncing back on the road last weekend the Northwest College wrestling team earned a pair of dual victories over Northeastern Junior College and Otero Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, before finishing the trip at the Younes Hospitality Open at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Cody Pinkerton earned the lone victory on the night for the Trappers after getting a 2-1 decision at heavyweight. Pinkerton earned the top ranking individually at heavyweight to start the season.

TRAPPERS FALL IN TOP 10 MATCHUP

The No. 8-ranked Northwest College wrestling team fell in an early season test against defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Western Wyoming in Rock Springs 50-3 on Saturday.

Orrin Jackson finished with a 1-1 record in the opening weekend, winning and losing decisions against a pair of Argonauts.

After a resurgence in the 2022-23 season, the Northwest College wrestling team will open its season at home this Saturday in Cabre Gym.
